The OctoberWoman Foundation proudly supports the efforts of Hope & Heroes Children's Cancer Fund and is dedicated to the children who strive each day to overcome the challenges of pediatric cancer.

For the past sixteen years, The OctoberWoman Foundation has been committed to supporting innovative breast cancer research programs with an emphasis on raising awareness, improving diagnostic methods, and creating treatment options less toxic to the body. Its goal is to empower all women with 'Hope for the Future'. The same mission remains strong not just for women with breast cancer, but for ALL battling illnesses.

The Foundation was created in 1994 by the DiBella Family, as a means to raise money and awareness in the field of breast cancer. Since its founding, the organization has worked to expand its support base and broaden its outreach and through this strong network the Foundation has been instrumental in helping many people, not just women, find the doctors they need to battle cancer and other life threatening diseases.

The OctoberWoman Foundation is expanding its reach to support a broader community of cancer patients and it's all because of one courageous little girl. Founded in 1994 by the DiBella family, the Foundation has primarily focused on supporting breast cancer research, awareness and education. Two years ago that changed when the DiBella family encountered a dire situation which touched their hearts.

John and Lorraine Commerford, family friends of the DiBellas, were going through that which all parents fear, a critically ill child who was not getting better. Their then 9-year-old daughter, Brianna, although in treatment, was suffering with no clear diagnosis or resolution in sight until Dr. Michael Weiner, Division Chief of the HICAOC and Founder of the Hope and Heroes Children's Cancer Fund, who personally began to oversee Brianna's case. This chain of events was the beginning of Brianna's recovery.

On Brianna's first visit with Dr. Weiner, he was able to give her an accurate diagnosis. She was suffering from advanced Stage IV Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Brianna was immediately placed into the capable hands of the pediatric oncology unit where she began her grueling road to recovery. This long and difficult journey was supported daily by her family and the tremendous staff of the Herbert Irving Child & Adolescent Oncology Center. Each day, the team at Columbia strives to inspire hope in the lives of children affected by cancer. They have touched many young hearts and have certainly made a difference in Brianna's life.
